The Alfa Romeo Montreal, the magnificent design by Marcello Gandini, also the designer of the legendary Lamborghini Miura as the air intakes behind the doors confirm, was presented in 1967 at the Expo 67 in Montreal. There the concept kept the unofficial name that the public had started to give the car in Canada after which the factory eventually took it over. At that time, the Montreal, just like the recent C8, was design-wise far above the average 4-cylinder range of Alfa Romeo. For example, there was the V8 that was derived from the engine of the famous 33 Stradale, a 5-speed gearbox from the German ZF, a limited slip differential, dry-sump lubrication, the SPICA injection system and last but not least the beautiful design. Most striking details; the headlight grilles that fold away when using the light, the bonnet with beautifully camouflaged curvature and the air vents that are also present on the Miura. Which by the way should have been air intakes in the first place because the design would have a mid-engine. Now one of the most beautiful style elements of the Montreal. Finally, click on the photos of the speedometer and rev counter and see that the Montreal is also unique at this level of detail. In recent years, she has been one of the strongest rising stars in the classic firmament, for incomprehensible reasons the appreciation was not always there, which is why restorations from the past were often cheap and poorly executed. This Alfa Romeo Montreal has been preserved so well that she was only repainted once for cosmetic reasons. The paintwork deserves a special mention. Flawless craftsmanship. She has been used so little that the car is otherwise completely in original condition, which makes this Montreal a very special and iconic classic.

Equipment
Equipped with electric windows, tinted glass, Campagnolo alloy wheels and a horn with a mountain position. Alfa's options list was hardly longer at the time. The air conditioning that was present deserves a special mention, reportedly fewer than 500 units were equipped with it.

Exterior
Bertone had an assembly and paint factory built especially for the Montreal in Grusliaco where the bodies were brought 'bare'. There they were degreased, provided with a zinc layer and an undercoat before the final paint colour was applied to an electrically charged body for optimum adhesion. Thanks to this method, original preserved bodies can still be found that only need to be repainted for cosmetic reasons or have already been repainted. This example is finished in beautiful and rare Bianco in which the design really comes into its own. Expertly repainted last year. Nicely dust-free and smooth. The car is intact and has never been welded. Correct fits, bumpers and trim in very good undamaged condition. Original and undamaged glasswork. Headlight windows work well. See the detailed photos of the underside and various critical parts, everything is nice and dry and original. This is one of the most important criteria when assessing the value of a Montreal.

Interior
The interior of this Montreal is a true time machine, completely original as it was delivered in 1972. No significant traces of use or damage. The upholstery of fabric on the seats also translates the low use of this car. Original Hellebore steering wheel. The dashboard has no cracking from heat development. Floor covering undamaged and clean. The floor mats have been renewed. All switches and levers clean and working properly.

Engine compartment, trunk, rims & tires
The engine compartment is completely original and clean. The beautiful V8 still has the original factory paint on the valve covers, no corroded oil residue. The whole offers a beautiful view of how the car left the factory in 1972. Visible maintenance has been carried out. All this with correct materials. On the inside of the bonnet still the sticker with oil regulations from the factory. The trunk still has the original upholstery and is nice and clean and undamaged. Original jack and spare wheel present. The 14 inch light-alloy Campagnolo rims are free of parking damage and brake dust. Very good tires around this.

Service history
Finding a solid, unrestored and well-preserved Montreal is the wish of the collector who collects wisely. After all, the degree of originality is an increasingly important factor in the appreciation of classics like this. Thin and dust-free paintwork, visible flange edges and spot welds are a must. This recently imported example from Italy is an example of how beautiful and good an Alfa body from that period can be. Thanks to the mild climate and garage storage, this Montreal is extremely well-preserved. I have rarely seen such a beautiful body. The previous two Italian owners saw from the moment of purchase that a Montreal would become a highly valued valuable classic and therefore treated it as such. The tight rust-free sheet metal, original interior and neatly maintained engine compartment prove the exceptional condition of this Montreal. When it arrived in the Netherlands, the car turned out to be in need of major maintenance as a result of its stay in an Italian collection. Specialist Sam van Lingen (world famous in Alfa land) did a lot of work, among other things the engine was completely dismantled and overhauled, a specialist in Germany overhauled the Spica injection system and e.g. the exhaust was renewed. Result, a very well driving Montreal with a more or less 'new' engine. This makes the car stand out above the average offer...
